Posture and Mobility

Our bodies are meant to sit, stand, and move without restriction or significant discomfort.  We use an integrated system to bring your body back to a state of optimal balance.

Are you looking to sit up straighter?  Stand taller?  Move better?  Eliminate pain?  These are just a few of the great reasons to address posture.

Here are a few others:

  • Be able to sit, stand and do daily life activities with less discomfort and fatigue
  • Move freely without restriction, so you can do the activities you want without constant worry and anxiety over what might happen
  • Be able to position your body for comfort, which leads to reduced stress, better energy, and mental clarity

At the Visnic Center for Integrated Health we view posture as a window into the body.  You see,  just as you couldn’t figure out the plot of an entire movie on just a still image of one scene, we wouldn’t want to assume everything from what your body looks like while being in one position without moving.  We want to look under the hood, so to speak!

Any given posture may be the result of many inputs, including some or many of the following:

  • Muscle imbalances
  • Pain or pathology
  • Vision
  • Dental health and bite mechanics
  • Feet and arches
  • Breathing
  • Nutrition
  • Emotional stress

Proper assessment of these areas is important in order to achieve the best results, so it is extremely important to address all lifestyle factors.  Here is an example:

One of my clients, a respected surgeon, began to have chronic back and neck pain that wouldn’t go away, no matter what he tried. A number of doctors informed him that his pain was simply a result of bending over the surgical table all day and that he might have to consider a change of profession to get relief.

This man loved his work and had no intention of giving it up, so I created a corrective program to address the muscles affecting his neck and spine and correct his posture. Here’s what he says about the program:

“For the first time in a decade I have NO neck or back pain. I feel no limitations in my physical activities and I don’t have a fear that my career will be ruined.” – Mark Galantowicz, MD

In his case, we didn’t have to stop him from doing surgery, but we did have to prepare his body for long hours of bending forward, and make sure he spent time stretching and strengthening the right muscles after work.

Another client is a professional competitive bodybuilder diagnosed with Sacroiliac Joint Dysfunction. The constant pain in her right hip kept her from training and competing, and none of the specialists she saw for the next two years were able to provide any relief. With us, she finally saw results.

“His knowledge and methods are like nothing I have ever seen before. After only one visit my hip felt almost as good as new and after a month I have finally been able to see real progress in my strength and body composition. Thank you, Sam, for giving me hope.”  – Christie Marquez, IFBB Professional Bikini Competitor

At the Visnic Center for Integrated Health, we often consult with other health professionals to create customized solutions for clients. In one such instance, we determined that a client had chronic neck pain because he kept squinting while doing computer work for 8 hours per day.  This resulted in leaning forward to see the monitor.  Hands on massage work and exercises were not going to get the job done alone.  He needed a new prescription for reading glasses, so we referred him to our partnering optometrist as part of the solution to his problem.

Another client who had neck and jaw issues needed massage therapy, which we provide, but upon evaluation we discovered a jaw imbalance that needed dental intervention. We referred her to an excellent dentist who properly diagnosed the problem and created a custom bite guard for her. The bite guard coupled with her movement program soon brought great results for her.

Whatever your problem, we will work to create an integrated solution that gets to the root cause of your postural issue, and gets you back to standing, sitting and moving with greater freedom and less discomfort.
